Holiday Outreach Efforts Include Successful Miracles on Ice Event

Martinsville, Virginia (December 2018) – ValleyStar Credit Union teamed up with Downtown Roanoke, Inc. and The Kettle Cooker Express to host a special “Miracles on Ice” event at Elmwood on Ice presented by ValleyStar Credit Union on December 2nd. The proceeds from this day of skating and sliding as well as Kettle Cooker Express sales were matched by ValleyStar to benefit Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Carilion Children’s for a donation total of $1,500. “We appreciate the generosity of organizations like ValleyStar Credit Union for putting together such creative fundraising community events like Miracles on Ice,” stated Erin Henderson, Program Director for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Carilion Children’s. “Donations like this go a long way in helping our local children.”

ValleyStar Credit Union also sponsored their “12 Days of Giving” holiday outreach campaign from November 29th through December 14th. This fun, company-wide giving effort featured ValleyStar Holiday Cheer Squad members from all eight branches teaming up to perform “Random Acts of Kindness” throughout the communities they serve. Examples of the random acts were: surprising shoppers at department stores with gift cards; treating patrons to breakfast or fuel for their gas tanks; donating to local food pantries and homeless shelters; shopping for Salvation Army angels; donating supplies to local animal shelters; making gift bags for local police, fire, and rescue squad professionals; and donating to local families in need with unusual hardships. In total, the Holiday Cheer Squad distributed more than $4,000 to local charities, organizations, and families in need in December.

In addition, the Credit Union also presented Lieutenants George and Ruby Keith in command of the Salvation Army of Martinsville with a monetary donation in the amount of $1,000.
