Message From President and CEO

Hello ValleyStar members,

As we head into the final stretch of 2022, the ValleyStar Credit Union 300 brought race fans from around the country to enjoy one another’s company and watch Peyton Sellers bring home the grandfather clock. This year also brought the exciting news that ValleyStar Credit Union and the Martinsville Speedway agreed to continue the nation’s biggest, richest and most prestigious NASCAR Late Model Stock Car race for another five years.

Our credit union’s roots are in Martinsville, Virginia. That is where ValleyStar was founded in 1953 and it’s important to this day that we remain a part of the community where we began.

Just like you, the ValleyStar team is a part of the community, and it is a priority for us to use our expertise to ensure your financial well-being. We understand that all of us are living through some uncertain times and our financial experts are here to help you. We recently recorded a podcast on how to navigate the Federal Reserve rate increases. When you have a moment, you can listen here.

We have also continued to help members throughout the area build their savings. Since we began our “We speak low-risk-high-savings” share certificate program this summer, we have helped close to 500 members grow their savings. We can help you, too. If you bring ValleyStar a minimum of $10,000 to ValleyStar that isn’t already in an account with us – you can earn up to 3.04% APY. Check out the details on how you can make your money work for you at valleystar.org/share-certificate.

Supporting the communities we serve goes beyond financial products and services. This year, in addition to the ValleyStar Credit Union 300, we have sponsored the Uptown Martinsville Farmers’ Market, The Bridge Street Food Truck Rodeo in Danville, Blue Ridge Nightmares in Roanoke, Groovin’ on the Greenways in Waynesboro and a multitude of other events throughout our field of membership, all supporting nonprofits or building economic development for our families, neighbors and friends.

The team’s hard work is noticed. Our mortgage loan officer, Alicia White-Braxton, was recognized with a reader’s choice award in the Roanoke HOME magazine. In that same publication, ValleyStar Credit Union was recognized as one of the best credit unions in the Roanoke Valley. Earlier this year, Martinsville Bulletin readers awarded us in the category of “Best Place to Work” in Martinsville.

I am proud of our team as we continue to practice our mission of “Employees First. Members Benefit.” Our goal remains to be the best in service and convenience and it’s clear the team continues to work hard to constantly improve upon all that we have already accomplished.

Last quarter, our ValleyStar team had 11 internal promotions and we added another 11 new team members who bring impressive qualities and will be valuable assets to us moving forward. We’re focused on hiring the right people in the right positions and retaining critical long-term employees. As financial stewards of our member’s money and our commitment to our employees, we have increased the corporatewide minimum wage to $15/hourly.

From all of us here at ValleyStar Credit Union, we wish you much joy and happiness as we head into the winter holiday season.

Sincerely,

M Warrell signature

Congratulations

We speak low-risk-high-savings.

Our rates on certificates are not a deal you want to miss! If you bring at least $10,000 to ValleyStar that isn’t already in an account with us – you can earn a high yield of up to 3.04% APY* on our share certificate. A share certificate is a credit union’s version of what banks call certificates of deposit (CD), and our returns are usually well above average as compared to other financial institutions. We also offer a tool for you to calculate savings on your earnings.

Calculate Your Savings

We speak zero out that balance.

Transfer your high-interest credit card balance to a ValleyStar 0% APR* credit card for 15 months! We get it… the Federal Reserve rate changes are causing your credit card APR to increase. Tame that balance and transfer money from a credit card that isn’t with ValleyStar to zero out that credit card debt. You can make a balance transfer between now and February 28, 2023, to enjoy that 0% APR*.
