ValleyStar raises $40,000 for Children’s Miracle Network

Martinsville, Va. (October 30, 2020) – ValleyStar Credit Union’s annual golf tournament was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but that didn’t stop the community from rallying to raise funds for the local Children’s Miracle Network Southwest Virginia, Carilion Children’s. ValleyStar had a record-breaking year in 2019 and the goal was to keep the momentum going.

Thanks to the help of so many generous organizations and businesses, ValleyStar reached its 2020 goal and will donate $40,000 to Children’s Miracle Network.

“In spite of a pandemic that created added stress for so many people, our amazing community of sponsors and golfers still made donations,” stated Becky Freemal, vice president of brand, ValleyStar Credit Union. “We are grateful to team up with Children’s Miracle Network to bring the best possible care for children in our community.”

“It is because of organizations like ValleyStar that our local children can receive the best health care available as close as home as possible,” said Erin Henderson, program director for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals at Carilion Children’s. “We are beyond grateful for the ValleyStar community and their fundraising efforts over the past five years. Our hospital truly would not be what it is today without them.”

All funds raised will remain local and support Carilion Children’s in Roanoke, Virginia to save and improve the lives of as many children as possible. Carilion Children’s is a designated Children’s Miracle Network Hospital and is southwest Virginia’s only dedicated hospital for children and adolescents.  Each year, the hospital treats more than 40,000 children from 40 counties in Virginia and neighboring states.

ValleyStar raised funds digitally through the platform Give-on-the-Go with support from the national Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. ValleyStar also received a $9,000 Miracle Match from CO-OP Financial Services to supplement local fundraising efforts.
