Letter From President and CEO

Hello ValleyStar members,

As we look ahead at the new year, ValleyStar Credit Union will continue strengthening its “Employees First. Members Benefit.” approach to becoming the best in service and convenience.

“Employees First. Members Benefit.” It’s more than just a mission statement for the ValleyStar Credit Union team. It guides our everyday decisions to help people get into their first home, build emergency savings, and offer auto loans to help keep our community mobile. We understand financial inclusion helps communities thrive, and it’s our job to ensure everyone has an equal playing field.

Our financial wellness webinars, videos and podcasts included such topics as navigating the rate change environment as the Fed raised rates, the 529 Plan, planning for college, creating a budget, identity protection and holiday spending.

Our credit union’s roots began in Martinsville, Virginia. That is where ValleyStar was founded in 1953, and it’s important to this day that we remain a part of the community where we began while growing to include others to strengthen their financial wellness and offer the same great products and services our current members enjoy.

When we care for one another, entire communities prosper.

During the holiday season, we supported several nonprofits who share the same values as we do at ValleyStar; to volunteer, collaborate with and engage the communities we call home. ValleyStar joined the Henry County Food Pantry and Clothes Closet to collect food and clothing items in the Collinsville area. The ValleyStar team took part in the Uptown Martinsville Winterfest and tree lighting. ValleyStar team members joined forces with the GP Watkins Organization for its Annual Holiday Toy Giveaway, where those in attendance enjoyed a hot meal and toys were given to the children. ValleyStar also spent some time relaxing and enjoying some good music and food during the annual Golden Club holiday social event.

We will continue to extend our support to nonprofits throughout 2023; as a credit union and through the ValleyStar RISE Foundation, our philanthropic arm that focuses on education.

Our mission, “Employees First. Members Benefit.” is the guide in all we do. During the past quarter, our ValleyStar team had five internal promotions, and we added another eight new team members who bring impressive qualities and will be valuable assets to us moving forward. We’re focused on hiring the right people in the right positions and retaining critical long-term employees. As financial stewards of our member’s money and our commitment to our employees, we have increased the corporate-wide minimum wage to $15/hourly.

From all of us here at ValleyStar Credit Union, we wish you happiness and health in the new year.

Sincerely,

Mike Warrell
