Board Elections
Nominating Committee has submitted the names Nancy Phillips, Betty Jo Ray and Terry Young to fill the three open seats on the ValleyStar Credit Union Board of Directors. If there are no other eligible nominations, the below candidates will be appointed. Check out their impressive bios!
Nancy Phillips
Nancy Phillips has been a member of the Credit Union since 1995. She has served ValleyStar since 1998 in various capacities, including Volunteer at Large (1998-1999), Secretary of Supervisory Committee (1999- 2006), Supervisory Committee Chair (2006-2007), member of Supervisory Committee (2007-2010), and member of Board of Directors (2010- present). Nancy is a professor at Patrick & Henry Community College. She received her Ph.D. from UNC-Greensboro and her M.B.A. from Averett College. Nancy is a past president and past board director of the Martinsville Rotary Club. In addition, she is a past member of Piedmont Arts and a past member of the Piedmont Arts Guild.
Betty Jo Ray
Betty Jo Ray has been a member of the Credit Union since 1991. She has served ValleyStar since 2008 in various capacities, including Volunteer at Large (2008-2009), Supervisory Committee (2009-2011), Supervisory Committee Chair (2011- 2015), Director (2015-present), and currently serves as Board Secretary. She is a Notary Public and retired in 2019 from Patrick & Henry Community College, where she is currently employed part-time. Betty Jo enjoys reading, golfing, and spending time with her grandchildren in her spare time.
Terry Young
Terry Young has been a member of the Credit Union since 1981. After previously serving ValleyStar on the Supervisory Committee (1998- 1999), he has served the Credit Union since September 2015 as a Volunteer at Large, a member of the Supervisory Committee, and a current board member. He is the Dean of Academic Success and College Transfer at Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC). Prior to becoming a dean, Terry was a professor at P&HCC for 20 years. He holds a B.A. in history from the University of Virginia, an M.A.L.S. in social sciences from Hollins University, and a J.D. from the University of Idaho College of Law. He is a lifelong resident of the Figsboro community in Henry County and is a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
