Martinsville, Virginia (July 2018) – Justin Barnes has joined the ValleyStar Credit Union team as the Vice President of Commercial Lending. He brings 18 years of combined banking and lending experience to his role. Most recently, he worked at First Bank & Trust as a Commercial Lender. A resident of Franklin County, Barnes is a graduate of the Virginia Bankers Association School of Bank Management at the University of Virginia.

Mendy Shaffer has joined the ValleyStar Credit Union team as the Vice President of Accounting. She brings 14 years of experience in accounting, including more than eight years in credit unions, to her role. Shaffer most recently served as the Vice President of Accounting at Freedom First Federal Credit Union. A resident of Roanoke, Shaffer holds an MBA from Radford University and a BBA from Averett University. She is also a graduate of the Southeast CUNA Management School hosted by the Southeast Regional Credit Union Schools at the University of Georgia.
